More on my fucked up week

The economic crisis has now become very personal. Never mind the fact that work is now hurting for donations. Alan came home yesterday to say that he has been demoted as of this coming Monday and is now hourly instead of salary. He was part of the environmental department that tests the soil and finds the history of a property before it's bought. Well, no ones building or buying property so his place of work is suffering. They are now reviewing their situation weekly and making adjustments. But since Alan's new position depends on if they have any actual field work he'll most likely be spending next week at home looking for a job.

I have some money saved and the inheritance from my Aunt June has yet to be touched. So I think we'll be alright for awhile. So does anyone have any work for a masters level geologist?

*sigh* It is rough these days, isn't it? On a total side note, I had no idea he was a geologist! What exactly o they do for work? I've always been interested in the field because I just adore rocks and mountains and so on...

Well, what Alan did was exam property for people who might potential buy it. Looked into the history of the land to see if anything nasty might be buried. Took soil samples to see if there is anything toxic. Looked into to the stability of the land. If you build huge condos will they just sink into the ground? But since no one is building or buying land at the moment work slowed for him. Another thing a geologist can is work for energy companies. Seeing what type of rock is on the land can predict if there is any coal or oil. Also my father who works for the electric company is now trying to get Alan to apply because someone has to check the land around the plants to make sure nothing harmful isn't leaking out.

Anyway a temp agency called him last week and he interviewed with them. The women seemed to already have a position in mind for him. Hopefully she'll get back to him soon.
